Five Kaizens have been registered at Mines area of Balasore Alloys Ltd. in the month of March. Their functionality was evaluated by Business Excellence office, Operation head, Eng Head and SCM head.
After evaluation three best Kaizens were declared winners of First and Second Prizes on 26 April by Managing Director Mr. Anil Sureka and Unit Head in presence of all heads of departments and members of the Mines team. Mr. Sureka highlighted the significance of the innovative practices applied at the captive Chrome ore mine in Sukinda Valley in Jaipur District of Orissa which provides the Chrome ore required by the company in a fully integrated production cycle.
Nine professionals have been involved in working on the excelled Kaizens.
First prize was awarded to a five experts strong team led by Mr. Sujit Naik. Their theme covered the modification of Belt Feeder-2 so as to use only gravitational mechanic gadgetry and eliminate the use of external electrical energy.
Auto Lubrication of Cadmium on Rod Mill-1 System brought the second prize to the team led by Eng. Jyoti Ranjan Das. The third best implemented Kaizen was bestowed an award to the team who executed the Rod Mill-1 Feed Chute Modification on purpose of material choking reduction and chute life improvement.
“Kaizen” is a Japanese word referring to “improvement”. It holds important role in Total Productive Maintenance philosophy adopted by Balasore Alloys Ltd. “Kaizen” involves comprehensively planned and applied activities involving staff at every position in the organisational hierarchy towards improving processes and eliminating wastes which, in a combination with standard best practices is aimed at sustaining morale and guaranteeing competitive levels of productivity.
