Bhubaneswar: Balasore Alloys Limited, a part of the Ispat Group of Companies and a leading manufacturer of ferro alloys in Orissa, has achieved another milestone.

The company has been awarded with Best Productivity Award for the year 2006-07 for its significant improvement in productivity. The award was recently received by company's joint managing director Rabindra Kumar Jena at a function organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in Kolkata.

The company also received appreciation from the CII for its commendable efforts in the area of total quality in the quality award contest for 2006-07.

"It was a good achievement for us as we were declared first among several industries located in Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. As many as 18 leading industries were short-listed for it and we were adjudged the best," Jena said. About the company's overall performance, Jena said that the turnover had grown from Rs 100 crore to Rs 350 crore during the last fiscal. In the sector of export, the company had registered a significant presence in the world market by exporting over 32 percent of its produce to Japan.

The company, which became the first ferro alloys company in the country to get total productive maintenance certification, has witnessed a sea change over the year by introducing six sigma, total productive maintenance, performance management system, supply chain management and activity based costing.
